Neighbor wikis...

There was a lot going on in the neighborhood this morning -- both inside and outside. Let me share the inside portion, and you'll see how it relates to the outside portion of activity today.

Inside, we continued building out our 'Ask Anything Saturday' set of wiki pages. And when I say 'we', I mean 'The Begats'.

Sister Rhonda ('Double R') is one of 'The Begats', and we'll be introducing you to some others in the coming weeks.

Celebrating with 'Rebuilding The Wall'...

Praise God -- Celebrating another RTW home completed!

'Rebuilding The Wall' is a neighborhood ministry not far from the cafe. You can learn a lot about it at their site (see link below). Often, volunteers stop in at the cafe for a hearty breakfast before heading over to work on the homes. And like the cafe, RTW is a solid advocate for 'Christian Community Development'. We praise God for this ministry in the heart of the inner-city. And thanks for everyone's efforts of faith that helped this to happen -- modeling 'love one another' and 'love your neighbor as yourself'.

Chaotic Podcasting Training...

We're taking notes LIVE at our new 'AskAnythingSaturday.com' site... in this case under the PODCASTING topic. Scott & Kathy Wilder and their ChaoticChristians.com co-host Doug Pierce conducted today's special training. If you missed out on this fun training time (and such things as 'Chicks Are Hot'), come to the cafe on future Saturdays (10am) during 'Ask Anything Saturday', and we'll be doing some one-on-one assistance with these new technologies.

Scott emphasized again... everything we do here each Saturday is FREE & easy. You just have to know someone who can lead you to the free stuff and the easy ways.

Neighborhood Cleanup CANCELLED... at least for tomorrow.

The Youth Compassion Action Project neighborhood clean up has been cancelled due to unusually cold Spring Break temperatures. It is with regret that we have to reschedule this activity for later this summer, yet better weather will allow more youth to participate and neighbors to interact with all of us. The Wednesday morning roundtable meets at 7:30 am each Wednesday. Its facilitators (unofficially) are David Metzger and David Weinschrott.



The table is open to anyone. Usually, anywhere from five to nine folks join in.

I’d say our focus is understanding the city and bearing grace, peace, and justice in the city (and particularly the urban neighborhoods adjacent to UB Café). We read and discuss either books of the Bible or books that challenge us. We’ve worked through the minor prophets, James, Hebrews, etc., and books like The Upside Down Kingdom by Donald Kraybill, God’s Politics by Jim Wallis, Making Room by Christine Pohl, a book by John Eldridge, The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and, currently, Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne.

We have open and sometimes vigorous discussion…seasoned with a readiness to try to understand one another, give each other grace, and stay at the table. We pray together each time we meet.

Every Saturday... 10am at the cafe...

Sister Elease Womack... 'Mother Of The Hood'

Ya'll come. And no, it's not quite this nice EVERY Saturday at the cafe, but we'd like you to think of us this way -- we're always anxious for you to come get a hug and let us get to know you so we can serve our community TOGETHER.

We open every day (Tues-Sat) at 7am. But especially every Saturday morning at 10am, people are coming to participate in various meetings over coffee & pancakes (or whatever your favorite breakfast). Often, they're driven Christians from various walks of life, praying & planning together, to reach our neighborhoods with the good news of Jesus Christ. And all these people get to know each other as a result -- we don't allow no strangers at the cafe... at least by the time they leave, that is. Everyone gets to know everyone.

Our friends from the chaotic cornfields... Alex & Scott... are coming down to be with us again on April 28th... 10am... as we do a special training day at the cafe about... PODCASTING.

So start thinking about the capabilities you might like to learn that day, and how it could change your ability to communicate more effectively. You'd be very welcome to leave a 'comment' here... below.
