Come join in any Weds morning...

[cut/pasted from an email from Pastor John Hay... BikeHiker.]

The Wednesday morning roundtable meets at 7:30 am each Wednesday. Its facilitators (unofficially) are David Metzger and David Weinschrott.

The table is open to anyone. Usually, anywhere from five to nine folks join in.

I’d say our focus is understanding the city and bearing grace, peace, and justice in the city (and particularly the urban neighborhoods adjacent to UB CafĂ©). We read and discuss either books of the Bible or books that challenge us. We’ve worked through the minor prophets, James, Hebrews, etc., and books like The Upside Down Kingdom by Donald Kraybill, God’s Politics by Jim Wallis, Making Room by Christine Pohl, a book by John Eldridge, The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and, currently, Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne.

We have open and sometimes vigorous discussion…seasoned with a readiness to try to understand one another, give each other grace, and stay at the table. We pray together each time we meet.

Listen in this morning, as Jeremy podcasts a presentation he & I did with other CCDA folks in Indy, to present/discuss technologies to help change the urban world in the name of Christ

Needed: A Small Screen

Anyone know where we could get a small pull-down screen for the cafe ministry?

A simple little thing like that, even if 'used'... would go a long ways to helping with training.

Drop me a line with your ideas. Thanks.

Every Saturday... 10am at the cafe...

Sister Elease Womack... 'Mother Of The Hood'

Ya'll come. And no, it's not quite this nice EVERY Saturday at the cafe, but we'd like you to think of us this way -- we're always anxious for you to come get a hug and let us get to know you so we can serve our community TOGETHER.

We open every day (Tues-Sat) at 7am. But especially every Saturday morning at 10am, people are coming to participate in various meetings over coffee & pancakes (or whatever your favorite breakfast). Often, they're driven Christians from various walks of life, praying & planning together, to reach our neighborhoods with the good news of Jesus Christ. And all these people get to know each other as a result -- we don't allow no strangers at the cafe... at least by the time they leave, that is. Everyone gets to know everyone.

Ok, here are some of the newest friends we've made... [click the flickr-badge below]

And btw... If you've never been to the cafe.... here's a quick video you'll enjoy, to show you what it's all about... every day of the week...

Chaotic Podcasting... April 28

Our friends from the chaotic cornfields... Alex & Scott... are coming down to be with us again on April 28th... 10am... as we do a special training day at the cafe about... PODCASTING.

So start thinking about the capabilities you might like to learn that day, and how it could change your ability to communicate more effectively. You'd be very welcome to leave a 'comment' here... below.

In the meantime, tune into the ChaoticChristians.com website and observe some of their wacky [Oops, I mean innovative] ways of thinking... and their 'outside-the-box' ways of doing things.

And plan to be with us on Saturday, the 28th.

**********************
Seriously, these guys have been great friends since plugging in at the cafe -- we praise God for anyone & everyone who are anxious to accelerate the Great Commission and its loving impact in our communities... from the heart of the city, to the cornfields of the county.

Pastor Boyd visits the cafe this morning

Today Pastor Fredrick Boyd, Jr. stopped by the cafe to talk about updating the Creation Evidence Crusade website.
We enjoyed being able to help him -- Stay tuned we'll soon link to Damita's handi-work as she develops the new site for the upcoming Fall 2007 week of events.
And remember... everything we do here on Saturday mornings... is FREE. So pastors, leaders, anyone... come on down and ask your questions or get some help with a website of your own.
"Ask Anything Saturday"... 10am til noon... at the Unleavened Bread Cafe, 30th x Central Ave.
Btw, any of your churches or community centers out there that would like to help form a whole NETWORK of such TechMission locations.... come down and let's talk. That's a key objective this year -- to build out a whole network of community sites throughout the city... to facilitate 'connecting & communicating' among driven Christians in the Racing Capital of the World.

Video: Chaotic Christians Take On The U.B. Cafe

Too great, Scott (and Alex). Just too great for words. Thank you for adding to everything in a big way.

Btw, clarifying a bit... While we do regular training every week (Saturdays at 10am), we aspire to increasingly do 'special training' each week as well... but we're not there just yet. We will look forward to you guys coming to do podcasting training soon!

May God specially bless you guys, as you bless others!

Pix at the cafe...

Da Bears, Da Colts and Duh Neil ...and Ellen Spencer

Great day yesterday at the cafe!

Ellen Spencer gave us all some training on uploading/tagging pix, so we can share them easily. Make them useful, even. [Stay tuned for further training re how YOUR photos could be used by The Chronicle -- the Christian newspaper here in Indy & beyond.

And as always, some great new connections were made by all of us. More 'driven Christians' teaming up to change lives & communities. Praise God!

A special thanks goes out to Ellen, and to our new friends from Martinsville, the 'Chaotic Christians'. Scott Wilder came and did some video shoots to podcast shortly. Stay tuned at ChaoticChristians.com.

MidNorth Church Council... and Food Pantry

I'll be doing a presentation for the MidNorth Church Council, taking them on a surfing tour of some great things going in the urban ministry world... and notably right here in this particular neighborhood via the cafe.

So I thought I'd quickly blog a note or two here so that our cafe friends also get to know more about the council... its goals... and about the Food Pantry.

Bishop Madison visits the cafe

Bishop Madison

Thanks to our friend Pastor David Scott, this morning we were able to meet and talk with Bishop Madison, from Propetic Utterance Ministry here in Indianapolis.

His ministry is at 6433 E. Washington St., Ste 195....

and his mission is... To feed the homeless and those in need in our area, food and the Gospel and prayer to encourage those in need.

***************

And how funny is this... (God's funny, is He not?).... When I met him at the cafe, I said... "Oh sure, I know you... You're H.T.'s pastor, right? [H.T. is a new friend I met through my many Christian connections around the city.] So of course, Bishop Madison was shocked that I would know his congregation member.... especially since H.T. is a special member... having come to Indy (because of the Bishop)... having previously been a Katrina victim.

[It's all about connecting the Church back together again, is it not?]

'J4J'... "We Lift Him Up"

[How cool is this! Praise God for this brother...]

Atlanta holy hip hop artist, 'J4J' has just finished producing "Lifting Him Up" -- a soundtrack especially for our TechMission program -- helping our friends and neighbors 'cross the 3 great divides'...

  • the 'digital divide'
  • the multicultural divide
  • and God's eternal divide

"We Lift Him Up".

The TechMission program is underway at the Unleavened Bread Cafe, a 501(c)3 ministry in the heart of Indy's inner-city. Come down and join us any Saturday morning, 10 a.m. til noon.

'J4J' -- Reginald Blanchard -- has been nominated for a 'Gospel Choice Award' as Best Holy Hip Hop Artist for 2006. But more than that, Reggie himself is a tech-adept, e-capable Christian who knows the importance and the power of acquiring internet skills... no matter what your profession. Check out his MySpace page as he uses it to network with others, and utilize his talents for the glory of God.

Then visit his commercial site... J4Jmusic.com.

But most importantly, listen to the lyrics as he guides young people toward Christ, acknowledging Him daily, and a life-long learning.

Let's hope to meet Reggie at CCDA St. Louis 2007 !

Prayer Reception at the cafe... Dec. 16

From Tom Walker
President - One Accord Minnistry

Dear Friends,

Blessings to you all in the name of our risen Lord. A free prayer reception is being held at the
Unleavened Bread Cafe (30th x Central Ave, map-link RSVP if you can) at 9 AM Saturday, Dec. 16th for new friend of Indiana, Pastor Lionel Batke, who is visiting us from Vancouver, British Columbia some 2400 miles away. Lionel is connected with my friends from Prayer Canada of Surrey, BC whom I visited back in September.

I wish to take some time Saturday to pray for Lionel (you could say a prayer for him now..) but I believe Lionel would much rather spend time praying for Indianapolis' needs so come and agree with us in prayer. Feel free to purchase breakfast from the Cafe while with us for the hour and Lionel and I will stick around for an additional hour to create additional linkages and time for additional prayer as the Spirit leads. It's important that Lionel connects with key leaders like yourselves while here to further improve and create US/Canadian spiritual collaboration.
Lionel Batke

PERSONAL PROFILELionel Batke was born and raised the son of a leading Full Gospel Pastor in Western Canada. He was trained in ministry and music as a youth. When he sings, his strong baritone voice can fill the largest auditorium. The Full Gospel Bible Institute, Eston, Saskatchewan provided further training and graduation in 1963.

In 1965 he was ordained into the ministry and during the early years served as pastor of churches in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. He and his wife, Virginia, of over 40 years live in Vancouver and have three children. This new generation in turn, are raising up nine grandchildren to be a godly seed in the earth.

As a father, he desires to mentor competent and effective ministry that will serve the next generation by the will of God. To this end he travels internationally with the burden of a teaching and prophetic ministry, equipping especially leaders to fulfill their personal purpose and call in God.

Real hunger and thirst for the fresh water of life forced his spiritual roots down deeply into Ireland during the latter days of Charismatic Renewal among Roman Catholics. This opened up his life and ministry to the whole Church and the whole world, further preparing him for ongoing prophetic input into a growing number of nations.

Lionel first went to Japan as part of Team Thrust Ministries and the interdenominational Holy Spirit Seminars of 1971, 1972 and 1975. He has since traveled in ministry often to remote places in South Africa, Rhodesia, Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Ireland, Holland, Poland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, China, Pakistan, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Australia, the Philippines and the Canadian High Arctic.

I look forward to seeing you all there Saturday!

May God bless you and all those you love ,

ABBOTT AND COSTELLO BUY A COMPUTER
by Tom King

For those of us who sometimes get flustered by our computers, read on.

If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, "Who's on First?" might have turned out something like this:

COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: Thanks. I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.

ABBOTT: Your computer?

COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.

ABBOTT: What about Windows?

COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy?

ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?

COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?

ABBOTT: Wallpaper.

COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.

ABBOTT: Software for Windows?

COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals and track expenses and run my business. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?

ABBOTT: I just did.

COSTELLO: You just did what?

ABBOTT: Recommend something.

COSTELLO: You recommended something?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: For my office?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!

ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.

COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?

ABBOTT: Word.

COSTELLO: What word?

ABBOTT: Word in Office.

COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?

ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue "W".

COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue "w" if you don't start with some straight answers. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?

ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.

COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?

ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.

COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?

ABBOTT: One copy.

COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.

COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?

ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!

(A few days later)

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?

ABBOTT: Click on "START".............
