Mayor Ballard to Recognize Local Community Leader at 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration

INDIANAPOLIS – Mayor Greg Ballard will recognize a local community leader at the 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, in the Beurt R. Servaas Public Assembly Room of the City-County Building. Mayor Ballard will present Elease Womack, known as Mother Womack, with the Lucious Newsom Community Legacy Award for her continued commitment to serving her community.

In 1997 Womack realized her dream of offering hope and help to those in need and opened Unleavened Bread Café for food and ministry. Unleavened Bread Café at the intersection of Central Avenue and 30th Street has served as a community meeting place, offering everything from Bible study and living skills classes to a back to school rally, Thanksgiving giveaways and much, much more.
The Lucious Newsom Community Legacy Award honors individuals who promote outstanding dedication and selflessness in community service.
