Mountain biking with a couple of guys from church early Wednesday morning at Washington Township Park in Avon, I went off the edge of a trail bridge, fell eight feet, and really did a number on my ribs, back, right scapula, and sternum. A beautiful early-morning bike hike turned into torturous pain, an ambulance ride, trauma center care, and three days in a hospital bed.

John: 16 fractures, including two compressed vertebrae."

Seniors and the Internet... Class or Clash?

Seniors get together at the Unleavened Bread Cafe (30th St. x Central Ave... map) at 10 a.m. on the 1st Tuesday of every month, to fellowship in a diverse setting, and to learn from each other... and others who will share their gifts & experience.

This monthly get-together is sponsored by the Mid-North Shepherd's Center.

July 3rd is the next meeting (10am) -- the topic of which will be "Seniors & the Internet... Clash or Class?"



The featured guest speaker will be Neil Cox, Founder of IndyChristian.com. Neil now serves as the director of the new "Center For Urban Innovation" at Crossroads Bible College. Neil regularly volunteers with the cafe's "Ask Anything Saturday" program for friends of the cafe neighborhood.

So Seniors... bring your questions, your suggestions, and a pencil & paper... And let's have some fun... as we decide... "Class or Clash?"

Paul Williams... 50 years of achievement

Paul Williams has been a neighborhood friend and businessman here in the Mapleton Fall Creek area of Indy. Paul operated the local laundrymat and was known by all. It was only fitting recently, as his friends and neighbors bestowed this award on him, recognizing & honoring his achievement and service among us.

Christine is the daughter of an urban pastor friend of the cafe... Pastor Bryan Hudson... who runs a MultiMedia camp for youth nearby. Check out their YouTube site... definitely cool!

Ok, now that we've seen Christine's handiwork... here's some handiwork from Pastor Hudson, the (very) proud father, as she recently graduated from Heritage Christian High School, with considerable achievements... including a $120,000 college scholarship.

Praise God -- Celebrating another RTW home completed!

'Rebuilding The Wall' is a neighborhood ministry not far from the cafe. You can learn a lot about it at their site (see link below). Often, volunteers stop in at the cafe for a hearty breakfast before heading over to work on the homes. And like the cafe, RTW is a solid advocate for 'Christian Community Development'. Scott & Kathy Wilder and their ChaoticChristians.com co-host Doug Pierce conducted today's special training. The Wednesday morning roundtable meets at 7:30 am each Wednesday. Its facilitators (unofficially) are David Metzger and David Weinschrott.



The table is open to anyone. Usually, anywhere from five to nine folks join in.

I’d say our focus is understanding the city and bearing grace, peace, and justice in the city (and particularly the urban neighborhoods adjacent to UB Café). We read and discuss either books of the Bible or books that challenge us. We’ve worked through the minor prophets, James, Hebrews, etc., and books like The Upside Down Kingdom by Donald Kraybill, God’s Politics by Jim Wallis, Making Room by Christine Pohl, a book by John Eldridge, The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and, currently, Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne.

We have open and sometimes vigorous discussion…seasoned with a readiness to try to understand one another, give each other grace, and stay at the table. We pray together each time we meet.

Sister Elease Womack... 'Mother Of The Hood'

Ya'll come. And no, it's not quite this nice EVERY Saturday at the cafe, but we'd like you to think of us this way -- we're always anxious for you to come get a hug and let us get to know you so we can serve our community TOGETHER.

We open every day (Tues-Sat) at 7am. But especially every Saturday morning at 10am, people are coming to participate in various meetings over coffee & pancakes (or whatever your favorite breakfast). Often, they're driven Christians from various walks of life, praying & planning together, to reach our neighborhoods with the good news of Jesus Christ. And all these people get to know each other as a result -- we don't allow no strangers at the cafe... at least by the time they leave, that is. Everyone gets to know everyone.

Today I was invited to speak at the Council of MidNorth Churches... as their meeting rotated to Tab (Tabernacle Presbyterian Church) here in Indy.

Praise God for churches anxious to work together to transform their communities.

Bishop Madison visits the cafe

Thanks to our friend Pastor David Scott, this morning we were able to meet and talk with Bishop Madison, from Propetic Utterance Ministry here in Indianapolis.

His ministry is at 6433 E. Washington St., Ste 195....

and his mission is... To feed the homeless and those in need in our area, food and the Gospel and prayer to encourage those in need.

And how funny is this... (God's funny, is He not?).... When I met him at the cafe, I said... "Oh sure, I know you... You're H.T.'s pastor, right? [H.T. is a new friend I met through my many Christian connections around the city.] So of course, Bishop Madison was shocked that I would know his congregation member.... especially since H.T. is a special member... having come to Indy (because of the Bishop)... having previously been a Katrina victim.

[It's all about connecting the Church back together again, is it not?]

Prayer Reception at the cafe... Dec. 16

Dear Friends,

Blessings to you all in the name of our risen Lord. A free prayer reception is being held at the Unleavened Bread Cafe (30th x Central Ave, map-link RSVP if you can) at 9 AM Saturday, Dec. 16th for new friend of Indiana, Pastor Lionel Batke, who is visiting us from Vancouver, British Columbia some 2400 miles away. Lionel is connected with my friends from Prayer Canada of Surrey, BC whom I visited back in September.

I wish to take some time Saturday to pray for Lionel (you could say a prayer for him now..) but I believe Lionel would much rather spend time praying for Indianapolis' needs so come and agree with us in prayer. Feel free to purchase breakfast from the Cafe while with us for the hour and Lionel and I will stick around for an additional hour to create additional linkages and time for additional prayer as the Spirit leads. It's important that Lionel connects with key leaders like yourselves while here to further improve and create US/Canadian spiritual collaboration.
Lionel Batke

PERSONAL PROFILELionel Batke was born and raised the son of a leading Full Gospel Pastor in Western Canada. He was trained in ministry and music as a youth. When he sings, his strong baritone voice can fill the largest auditorium. The Full Gospel Bible Institute, Eston, Saskatchewan provided further training and graduation in 1963.

In 1965 he was ordained into the ministry and during the early years served as pastor of churches in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. He and his wife, Virginia, of over 40 years live in Vancouver and have three children. This new generation in turn, are raising up nine grandchildren to be a godly seed in the earth.

As a father, he desires to mentor competent and effective ministry that will serve the next generation by the will of God. To this end he travels internationally with the burden of a teaching and prophetic ministry, equipping especially leaders to fulfill their personal purpose and call in God.

Real hunger and thirst for the fresh water of life forced his spiritual roots down deeply into Ireland during the latter days of Charismatic Renewal among Roman Catholics. This opened up his life and ministry to the whole Church and the whole world, further preparing him for ongoing prophetic input into a growing number of nations.

Lionel first went to Japan as part of Team Thrust Ministries and the interdenominational Holy Spirit Seminars of 1971, 1972 and 1975. He has since traveled in ministry often to remote places in South Africa, Rhodesia, Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Ireland, Holland, Poland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, China, Pakistan, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Australia, the Philippines and the Canadian High Arctic.

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: Thanks. I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.

ABBOTT: Your computer?

COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.

ABBOTT: What about Windows?

COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy?

Sacking Hunger

Here’s another opportunity to help those in need this coming Thanksgiving. Please help us those who may fall through the cracks this season. Know anyone who could use some help?
Thousands of families in Indy are deprived of typical Thanksgiving Dinner.
Faith, Hope and Love www.fhlcommunity.org (FHL) is partnering with Helping Hands, Save the Youth, Shepherd Community and several other organizations and churches to collect “Sacks of Groceries”. The sack would include:
2 cans of green beans
1 jar of applesauce
Bread Rolls
2 cans of corn
1 packet of noodles
Cookies
2 cans of sweet potatoes
1 box of instant potatoes
Pudding2 cans of cranberry sauce
1 box of stuffing
Brown Sugar
2 packets of brown gravy mix
1 bag of marshmallows
Paper Products
Collections dates, time and sites are:
November 6 - 17 (Mon-Fri) 8am to 4pm at Save the Youth http://www.savetheyouth.org (STY) building at 1701 N. Trumbull, 317-923-5642; (Mon-Fri) 10am to 4pm at the Vineyard Community Church http://www.indyvineyard.org at 8383 Craig St. Ste. 185, 317-842-3510 and Bethel Lutheran Church http://www.bethellutheranchurch.com/ at 20650 Cumberland Rd. Noblesville, IN 46062 317-773-4315. Grocery packages will be delivered through the help of organizations who are strategically located around metropolitan Indianapolis to reach those who may fall through the crack.
There will be Thanksgiving Dinner at Save the Youth building on November 21 at 6:00pm. Please provide Macaroni & Cheese in large packages, turkey, paper plates, cups and plastic utensils. Your donation of $20 will feed 4 persons; $15 will buy a frozen turkey; $55 will provide complete groceries for a family. Please make your check payable to Faith, Hope and Love and mail it to: 5730 Bruce Blvd. Noblesville, IN 46062.

FHL is also partnering with different organizations such as 93.9 The Song, the local government, schools, churches and businesses to provide opportunities to the public to “Sack Hunger” together.

Study: Digital Divide Separates Children

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Many more white children use the Internet than do Hispanic and black students, a reminder that going online is hardly a way of life for everyone.

Two of every three white students -- 67 percent -- use the Internet, but less than half of blacks and Hispanics do, according to federal data released Tuesday. For Hispanics the figure is 44 percent; for blacks, it's 47 percent.

"This creates incredible barriers for minorities," said Mark Lloyd, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and an expert on how communications influence civil rights.

Not using the Internet "narrows their ability to even think about the kind of work they can be doing," Lloyd said. "It doesn't prepare them for a world in which they're going to be expected to know how to do these things."

Kids use the Internet most often for completing school assignments, the new study says.
